Gras, Rane Lead Pirates Turnaround in Round Two
4/20/2025 5:17:00 PM | Women's Golf
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Freshman Amelie Gras (Elancourt, France) fired a 2-over-par, 74, and the Seton Hall women's golf shaved 16 strokes off their first-round score during the second round of the 2025 BIG EAST Championship on Easter Sunday.
Â
Gras had five birdies in her first 10 holes before struggling midway through back nine. Gras finished with a team-best 2-over-par, 74. For the tournament, she moved up eight spots in the individual standings and is tied for 17th place with a 14-over-par, 84-74-158.
Â
As a team, Seton Hall was twice as good as it was yesterday, improving from 32-over-par in round one, to 16-over-par in round two. The Hall's 304 on Sunday was the third-best team round in the field. The Pirates are currently in fifth place with a 48-over-par, 320-304-624, but they're only three strokes behind third-place Creighton. Xavier, looking for its sixth-straight BIG EAST title, is currently the team leader at 16-over-par. Georgetown is second at 28-over-par.
Â
Seton Hall has three team BIG EAST titles in its history, but has never had an individual champion. That could change tomorrow as freshman Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain) enters round three just one stroke off the individual lead. On Sunday, Aguilar had a tough start, but was just 1-over-par in her final 12 holes. For the round, she was 5-over-par with a 77. She enters the final 18 holes tied for second with a 4-over-par, 71-77-148. She's just one stroke behind the individual leader, Xavier's Kara Carter.
Â
Senior Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain) was consistent throughout her second round, shooting 3-over on both the front and back nines, for a 6-over-par, 78. For the tournament, she's tied for 20th with a 15-over-par, 81-78-159.
Â
Like Gras, Renee Rane (New Delhi, India) improved a remarkable 12 strokes from round one to round two. The sophomore was 1-under-par over her final 15 holes of the afternoon and finished with a 3-over-par, 75. Through 36 holes, she's 18-over-par with an 87-75-162.
Â
Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) shot a 14-over-par, 86, in round two. She's currently 26-over-par for the tournament with an 84-86-170.
