OKATIE, S.C. – Playing in his final collegiate round, senior Patrick Kahanek (San Antonio, Texas) had the top performance for the Seton Hall men's golf team, an even-par, 72, in round three of the 2025 BIG EAST Championship at Callawassie Island on Monday.
Kahanek had three birdies and only two poor holes, a bogey on No. 1 and a double-bogey on No. 13. The senior improved each round throughout the tournament, and shot an even-par, 72, in his finale. For the tournament, Kahanek was 8-over-par with a 78-74-72-224.
Seton Hall flipped its front and back nines in round three. The Pirates started their day on hole No. 10, and the results were solid early. Collectively, the Pirates did better today on holes No. 10 through No. 18 than they have all tournament. Unfortunately, as the day wore on, and the levity of today being the final collegiate round for Kahanek and George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) sank in, The Hall didn't do as well on the front nine as it had the prior two days.
For round three, the Pirates shot a 7-over-par, 295. Seton Hall slipped to ninth place in the final standings with a 16-over-par, 292-293-295-880. Marquette claimed the team title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a remarkable final score of 17-under-par. Xavier finished second at 6-under-par.
Individually, Fricker was the top Pirate for the tournament. On Monday, he had four birdies to fuel a 2-over-par, 74, in his final collegiate round. Fricker tied for 10th with a 1-under-par, 70-71-74-215. It's his ninth career top-10 finish and eighth sub-par tournament, which is tied for fourth-most in program history.
Fricker closes out his three-year career at Seton Hall with a 73.29 scoring average. Only Lloyd Jefferson Go (72.28) and former teammate Wenliang Xie (72.82) have had a better career average.
Connecticut's Alex Heard won the individual title at 11-under-par.
The future is certainly bring for freshman Will Hennessee (Tulsa, Okla.), who carded a second-straight 1-over-par, 73, to close out his first BIG EAST Championship. He had a double-bogey on No. 18, but bounced back to shoot 2-under-par over his final nine holes. For the tournament, he tied for 26th place with a 75-73-73-221.
David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) didn't have luck on his side in round three. A number of putts either lipped out or narrowly missed, which turned a promising low score in to a 4-over-par, 76. He was just 1-over through his first 12 holes, but bogeyed four of the next five. For the tournament, he was 6-over-par with a 71-75-76-222.
Eli Shah (Newtown Square, Pa.) shot a consistent 3-over-par on both the front and back nines on Monday. Birdies on holes No. 7 and No. 8 boosted his final score. He finished with a 6-over-par, 78. For the tournament, he was 16-over-par with a 76-78-78-232.
