BALTIMORE - The Seton Hall women's tennis team won the doubles point in its road match at Loyola Maryland to set the tone, leading to a strong singles performance and a 5-2 win over the Greyhounds Saturday at Coppermine Racquet & Fitness Club.
"We fought well today," said head coach James Enzler. "It was great to see us pick up the doubles point as well. We get a little hard headed at times trying to force a strategy to work instead of finding the weak spots in our opponents' game. It was great to see our top players find their first wins as well. Niamh moving up to No. 3 and winning there was great to see as well."
The duos of Niamh Campbell/Anastasia Sereda and Jaden Davidson/Kira Farrakhova each disposed of their opponents in doubles by the score of 6-3 to notch the team's first doubles point since defeating Rider in October.
Seton Hall got singles wins at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 6. At the top of the lineup, Farrakhova was solid in dispatching Loyola Maryland's Christine Richiez in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(3).Â
Davidson was dominant in her win at No. 2 against Mia Matriccino, taking the match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Campbell, who moved up from No. 4 to No. 3, improved to 4-0 in singles play this season with a straight sets win over Elena Hartley, 7-6(4), 6-3.
Rachel Benoualid picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Emi Shivkumar in the No. 6 spot.
Seton Hall will host a pair of matches at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness next weekend, battling Rutgers Friday at 7 p.m., and Villanova Saturday at 6 p.m.
