LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – The Seton Hall men's and women's cross country teams closed out their regular seasons at the IC4A and ECAC Championships in Long Island, N.Y. The men earned a 21st place finish with 603 points, while the women finished in 20th place with 614 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED - MEN
For the third time this season, Joseph Butler found himself atop the timing pages for the Pirates. The senior fought his way through the nearly 300-runner field to finish the eight-kilometer course in 93rd place in a time of 25:17.30.
Rounding out the top two finishers for the Pirates was the familiar face of Aakash Arumugam. Arumugam, like Butler, carefully measured his way through the crowded field to finish in 107th place with a time of 25:28.50.
In his final regular season meet, Jeffery Grynaviski put on a stellar showing for The Hall. The stalwart veteran rose 75 spots by the end of the race, finishing in 124th place with a time of 25:38.70.
Across the line fourth for the Pirates was junior Liam Griffiths. Griffiths ran a consistent race among the midfield pack, finishing in 173rd place with a time of 26:02.80.
The final points-scoring runner for The Hall ended up being sophomore Will Gilhooly. Gilhooly finished in 217th place with a time of 26:37.40, one place higher and less than two seconds faster than teammate Ethan Conrad.
HOW IT HAPPENED - WOMEN
Once again, Paige Quigley continued her run atop the timing sheets for the Pirates. Thanks to some mid-race maneuvering, the senior finished the six-kilometer course in 129th place with a time of 22:19.90.
Junior Laura Castagna found her way to a season-best placement, crossing the timing line as the second Pirates runner. The junior finished 170th overall with a time of 22:42.80.
Behind Castagna was her fellow junior Destiny Lopez. Lopez spent the majority of the race among the central pack, battling for position. By the end of the race, she climbed all the way to 181st place with a time of 22:49.30.
Continuing a superb run of form in her first season at Seton Hall, Caitlin Brown collected her third points finish of the year. The freshman finished in 188th place with a time of 22:53.90.
Rounding out the final points-paying positions for the Pirates was another runner who has earned top-five finishes all season. Freshman Maeghan Joyce raced her way through the field, notching a 227th-place finish with a time of 23:33.8.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Pirates will begin their postseason when they travel down to Mechanicsville, Virginia, to take part in the BIG EAST Championships on Friday, October 30.
