AMBLER, PA. – The Seton Hall men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons with a pair of third-place team finishes out at the Temple Owl Invitational in Ambler, Pennsylvania. The men earned their third-place finish with 78 points, while the women earned the same place with 62 points.
How it Happened - Men
After a strong finish to last season, Joseph Butler picked up right where he left off, crossing the line first for the Pirates and notching a top-15 finish in the process.
Behind Butler, a pair of fellow upperclassmen crossed the line next for the Pirates. Junior Liam Griffiths crossed the line with a career-best 18th-place overall finish across the four-mile course, while senior Ethan Conrad broke the timing just over a second behind Griffiths with a time of 22:14.50.
In his first collegiate meet, freshman Evan Roberts notched his first scoring finish for The Hall, finishing 21st with a mark of 22:20.90. Rounding out the top-five finishers for the Pirates was Jeffery Grynaviski, who crossed the line right after Roberts in 22nd place with a time of 22:31.50.
How it Happened - Women
In what could be a forebearer for a strong season to come, Paige Quigley made a statement in the season opener. The senior ran a stunning race, narrowly missing the win, instead earning a second-place finish with a mark of 15:31.50.
That would not be the end of the Pirates' timesheet-topping escapades on the day, however. Junior Destiny Lopez earned her first top-ten finish by crossing the line in ninth place overall.
Behind the experienced veterans, a pair of freshmen put up strong showings in their Seton Hall debuts. Caitlin Brown secured 14th place with a time of 16:27.30, while Maeghan Joyce claimed 18th with a mark of 16:38.30.
The women rounded out their top five finishers with another experienced name. Junior Laura Castagna crossed the line in 19th, ensuring the five top-20 finishes, with a time of 16:39.20.
What's Next
The Pirates will continue their season on Saturday, September 19 when they travel to Middletown, N.Y. to compete in the Jasper Fall Invitational
