Lally Leads Pirates in the Spring's First Round

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – Senior David Lally (Wickow, Ireland) fired a 2-under-par, 70, to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a seventh place standing after round one at the Loyola Intercollegiate on Sunday.

Lally finished with five birdies and 11 pars in route to a 2-under-par, 70. After 18 holes, he's tied for 13^th place among 119 individual golfers. Paxton Maxwell is currently the team leader at 7-under-par after a 65.

As a team, The Hall is in seventh place following a 2-under-par, 286. Host Loyola Maryland and Richmond are tied atop the team leader board at 8-under-par following a pair of 280's.

Eli Shah (Newport Square, Pa.) continued his torrid junior year using three birdies and 13 pars to fuel a 1-under-par, 71. He's currently tied for 24^th place overall. It's already Shah's seventh sub-par round of the year.

Also tied for 24^th place overall, sophomore Will Hennesee (Tulsa, Okla.) had seven birdies and also shot a 1-under-par, 71.

Graduate student George Fricker (Woodbridge, England), playing on his birthday, shot a 2-over-par, 74, on Sunday and is currently tied for 64^th overall.

Senior Jack Bosworth (Daniel Island, S.C.) shot a 3-over-par, 75, in round one, and is currently tied for 76^th place.

Seton Hall's two freshman are competing as individuals. Blake Goodnight (Dallas, Texas) had four birdies and 11 pars in route to a 1-under-par, 71. He's tied with Shah for 24^th place. Jace Hulett (Boerne, Texas) fired a 1-over-par, 73, and is currently tied for 53^rd place.

THE COURSE:
Designed by renowned golf course architect Arthur Hills, Palm Valley Golf Club's Palms Course is one of the most popular championship Phoenix Arizona golf courses. The excellent layout provides a stiff challenge for accomplished players, yet it is flexible enough for novices to enjoy. One asset that sets Palm Valley Golf Club apart from other Phoenix Arizona golf courses is its diversity in play. The Palms Course has been rated among Arizona's best public golf courses by The Phoenix Business Journal, and the 18th hole is routinely cited by avid players as one of the best par-5s in the state.

THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Loyola, the massive field includes 19 other teams including: Air Force, Bucknell, Denver, Holy Cross, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Marshall, Missouri State, NC State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Omaha, Pennsylvania, Richmond, SIU-Edwardsville, South Dakota, South Dakota State, UT-Martin and Utah Valley.

THE FORMAT:
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

THE SCHEDULE:
The field will play 18 holes per day for three days, Sunday through Tuesday. A shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. PT all three days will begin competition. Seton Hall golfers will be paired with golfers from Loyola, NC State and Penn in round one, beginning on holes 5-7.
