Seton Hall All-Time vs. Georgetown: 61-62 (Streak: W1)
NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Wednesday night was only the seventh time all season in which the Pirates have been outscored in the second half.
- The Pirates are 14th in the nation in scoring defense (65.1) and 9th in blocks per game (5.6).
- Seton Hall's 66.5 ppg allowed in conference play leads the BIG EAST.
- Seton Hall is 13-1 this season when scoring 70 or more points.
- The Pirates have held 21 of their 27 opponents this season to under 70 points and are 15-6 in those games.
- Furthermore, they've held 13 foes to 65 or less points and are 11-2 in such games.
- The Pirates held Butler to 30.2% FG on Sunday night, the lowest BIG EAST opponent's FG% for Seton Hall since holding DePaul to 22% FG on Jan. 30, 2024.
- In addition to seven wins when trailing at halftime, Seton Hall has 10 victories when behind at any point in the second half.
- Budd Clark was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after averaging 19.5 ppg, 7.5 apg and 3.0 spg in a 2-0 week.
- Clark had one of the best games by a college player this season, scoring 31 points to go with eight assists and five steals last Wednesday against Providence.
- Clark is the first BIG EAST player since at least 1996-97 to compile such a stat line in a regulation game. He is the first BIG EAST player to do it in any game since Jonny Flynn (34 pts, 11 ast, 6 stl) in the six-overtime classic against UConn in the 2009 BIG EAST Tournament.
- It was the first 30-point performance by a Pirate since Jared Rhoden, who scored 30 against Xavier on Feb. 26, 2022.
- Clark is averaging 19.9 pts, 5.3 ast, 1.9 stl and shooting 54 percent over his last seven games.
- Clark is fourth in the BIG EAST with 1.8 steals per game in conference games.
- Tajuan Simpkins has started the last two games after coming off the bench for the first 25 games of the season.
- Simpkins has been essential to the Pirates' success this season, averaging 12.3 points and shooting 49% FG in Seton Hall's 18 wins this season.
- Najai Hines ranks 18th in the nation and first among all freshmen in blocks per game (2.2).
- Hines' 2.2 blocks per game in BIG EAST play is tops in the conference.
- Shaheen Holloway is one of 51 coaches in the nation to be coaching at his alma mater.
SECOND HALF SUCCESS
- Shaheen Holloway admits the second half rallies his team has become synonymous with are "not good for my health," but the final 20 minutes have been friendly to the Pirates for most of this season.
- Interestingly enough, Seton Hall has seven wins this season when trailing at halftime, with five of those victories coming in BIG EAST play.
- One step further, The Hall has 10 wins this season when trailing at any point in the second half.
- Both of Seton Hall's win last week came when it trailed at the half.
- The Pirates have overcome four double digit second half deficits to win this season, including three straight from Dec. 30-Jan. 10 against Marquette, Creighton and Georgetown.
- Seton Hall's 56 point second half against Xavier was its most points in a half since Jan. 13, 2022 at DePaul (57).
- Seton Hall also trailed UConn by 18 in the second half on Jan. 13 before trimming that deficit down to just one with under a minute remaining.
DEFENSIVE-MINDED
- As is the case with any Shaheen Holloway-coached program, defense is a strongsuit for this Seton Hall team and has played a large role in the Pirates' early-season success.
- Freshman Najai Hines has been the leader in rim protection so far this season for The Hall, as his 2.2 blocks per game sits 18th in the nation and first among all freshmen.
- Fellow frontcourt mate Stephon Payne ranks fifth in the conference with 1.4 blocks per game.
- Hines swatted seven shots in Seton Hall's win over Monmouth on Nov. 13, the most blocks by a Pirate since Ike Obiagu (7) on March 9, 2022.
- The Plainfield native also rejected six shots in his college debut against Saint Peter's on Nov. 3.
- Hines recorded his first career double-double against Fairfield on Nov. 10, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. His double-double came in his third career game, the fastest Pirate freshman to do so since Angel Delgado in 2014 (also his third game).
