NEW YORK – Seton Hall junior guard Budd Clark (Philadelphia, Pa.) has been named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team and the BIG EAST All-Defensive Team as the conference announced its All-Conference awards on Sunday morning.
Clark has had a stellar season for the Pirates as an effective two-way guard, averaging 12.4 ppg, 4.7 apg, 2.8 rpg and 2.0 spg. In BIG EAST play, his scoring average rose to 13.7 ppg and he shot an efficient 44 percent from the field. Clark would be just the third Seton Hall player over the past 10 seasons to average at least 4.7 assists in a season, joining Quincy McKnight in 2019-20 (5.4) and Kadary Richmond in 2023-24 (5.1).
A proven defensive stalwart, Clark has caused fits for opposing guards all season. Clark is seeking to become the first Pirate to average at least 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals in their first season with Seton Hall since Clark's head coach Shaheen Holloway did so in 1996-97.
The Philadelphia native has had multiple banner games since transferring into the Seton Hall program this past summer after two seasons at Merrimack. Clark's best game of the season came on Feb. 11 in the win over Providence, when he finished with 31 points, eight assists and five steals. No BIG EAST player has achieved that stat line in regulation since at least 1996-97, and he was the first BIG EAST player to do so in any game since Syracuse's Jonny Flynn in the 2009 BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinal against UConn, a game which lasted six overtimes.
Clark made a statement in this year's Garden State Hardwood Classic against Rutgers on Dec. 13, scoring 16 points along with seven assists and four steals as he was named the Joe Calabrese MVP. Three of Clark's steals came inside the first two minutes of the game.
Entering the BIG EAST Tournament later this week, the junior has 19 double-digit scoring games, 14 games with five or more assists and 12 games with at least three steals.
Clark leads his fourth-seeded Pirates to Madison Square Garden this week for the BIG EAST Tournament, where they will open against Creighton on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
