The No. 9 seed Pirates, who topped the No. 8 seed Golden Eagles for the first time in program history, move on to battle top-seed Xavier on Friday at 1 p.m.
"We played with a lot of confidence today," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "I really loved seeing us put our foot on the gas right from the beginning in singles and not letting up after winning the first sets. We might have been seeded No. 9 going into the tournament, but I told our girls that we are the best team playing in the first round. They showed everyone that that was true. I'm really proud of them, but the job's not done though; it's time to set our sights on a very good Xavier team."
Seton Hall was strong in doubles, getting two solid wins in about a half-hour's time as Kira Farrakhova and Isabelle May were 6-1 winners over Maria Poon and Elena Duva, and Ellie Coe and Jaden Davidson were 6-2 winners over Luciana Mendoza and Aiyana Abbott. It was Seton Hall's first time winning the doubles point in a BIG EAST Championship match since the 2017 tournament semifinal.
Then the Pirates poured it on in singles, winning the first set of all six matches. Sereda was the first to win in singles, dispatching Maria Poon in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 3 position. It was her third BIG EAST Tournament singles victory of her career.
Isabelle May gave the Pirates a commanding 3-0 lead when she defeated Aiyana Abbott in the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-3, for her first BIG EAST Tournament singles win.
Jaden Davidson then clinched Seton Hall's team win when she finished off a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Emma Davis at No. 2, also her first BIG EAST Tournament singles win.
The Pirates and Musketeers will meet Friday afternoon with a spot in the tournament semifinals on the line.
