Gwen Adler Named BIG EAST Setter of the Week

NEW YORK – Seton Hall junior Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) was named BIG EAST Women's Volleyball Setter of the Week on Monday.

Adler is only the second Seton Hall player to net the weekly distinction, joining Maddie Klungel on Nov. 11, 2024.

Adler had arguably the greatest weekend of her career at the NJIT Invitational last week. The Pirates' setter averaged 8.31 assists per set, which ranked third-best in the BIG EAST, and she tallied two double-doubles and Seton Hall's first triple-double in 12 years. Adler tied her career-high with 40 assists to go with 13 digs in a five-set victory over NJIT on Thursday. On Sunday, she did it again with another 40 assists along with 10 digs and four kills against New Haven. Against Iona on Saturday, Adler became the first Pirate to record a triple-double since Shelbey Manthorpe on Sept. 27, 2014 with 28 assists, 20 digs and 10 kills in a four-set victory over Iona.

For her efforts, which included the only triple-double recorded this year by a BIG EAST player, Adler was named to the NJIT Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Marquette's Carson Tyler was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while St. John's Rashanny Solano Smith earned Defensive Player of the Week. Butler's Chase Lemming was named Freshman of the Week. Members of the Weekly Honor Roll include Connecticut's Helena Elnarsdottir, DePaul's Leonor Polezzi, Georgetown's Berkeley Ploder, Marquette's Luanna Markus and St. John's Carola Tesoro.

Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23 when it opens the BIG EAST Conference portion of its schedule in Queens against St. John's. Match time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
