Seton Hall baseball great Ryan Ramiz, a two-time All-BIG EAST selection and an MLB Draft choice of the Seattle Mariners in 2018, enters his second season on staff as an assistant coach.
In his first season on staff, Ramiz helped Seton Hall return to the BIG EAST Tournament for its 11th appearance in 12 years. The Pirates' 31 wins in 2023 was its highest win total since 2016 and it marked a 13-win improvement over the 2022 season. Ramiz and the coaching staff were awarded BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honors for their efforts.
Ramiz steadily progressed over his four-year career, collecting All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades as a junior and All-BIG EAST First Team honors as a senior. The Freehold, N.J., native hit a team-best .316 with 13 doubles and 32 RBI as a senior for a Seton Hall squad that advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game. In conference play, Ramiz led the BIG EAST with a .429 batting average (24-for-56) and a .528 on-base percentage.
A strong junior season set the stage for Ramiz's standout senior campaign. After appearing in all 58 games as a sophomore in 2016, Ramiz finished his third season in South Orange ranked in the top 10 in the BIG EAST in stolen bases (t-third, 17), triples (fourth, 4) and walks (seventh, 31). He made only two errors in 95 outfield chances and he led the team 15 multi-hit games.
Ramiz was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He reached A ball in the Mariners' organization where he hit seven home runs and drove in 42 runs in 119 games played for the West Virginia Power in the South Atlantic League.Â
