Former Pirate Shakena Richardson joined the women's basketball coaching staff as Coordinator of Basketball Operations prior to the 2017-18 campaign.Â
In her new role, Richardson will assist the program with travel and meal arrangements, gear distribution, practice planning and overall operations.
Richardson returns to The Hall after starring for the Pirates as a graduate transfer during the 2015-16 campaign. The Neptune, N.J. native was an All-BIG EAST and All-Met selection during her lone season in Blue and White, averaging 12.4 points and 5.6 assists per game. She helped the Pirates to the 2016 NCAA Tournament and later became the first WNBA Draft pick in program history as a third round selection of the Dallas Wings.
After playing with the Wings in the WNBA Preseason, Richardson began her professional career in Lithuania before an injury cut her first season short. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State in criminology and is pursuing a master’s in strategic communications at Seton Hall.
