SOUTH ORANGE, NJ (October 12, 2000) - The 2000-01 Seton Hall men's basketball team will appear on national television 11 times this year, highlighted by three telecasts by CBS and one by ABC, in addition to appearances on ESPN and ESPN2. Combining those games with 12 regional/local telecasts, 23 of the Pirates' 27 contests will be televised this season.
The 11 national television games ranks as the most in school history, as the 1992-93 squad had five games broadcast by CBS and six by ESPN.
Seton Hall's game at Illinois on December 9 will be televised on CBS, marking the Pirates' first regular-season appearance on the network since a loss at Georgetown on February 5, 1994. CBS will also televise Seton Hall's visit to Notre Dame on February 18 and the regular-season finale against Connecticut at Continental Airlines Arena on March 3.
ABC will broadcast one of Seton Hall's contests this season, the home date with Syracuse on Sunday, January 21. The last time the Pirates appeared on ABC was a visit to Stanford on February 4, 1996.
Seven of Seton Hall's games will be televised by ESPN or ESPN2, beginning with a home game versus Pennsylvania (Dec. 13) on ESPN2. On December 19, the Pirates will face defending national champion Michigan State in the annual Jimmy V Classic at Continental Airlines Arena on ESPN. Two Pirate home games with Notre Dame (Jan. 8) and Georgetown (Jan. 15) will appear on ESPN as part of the network's "Big Monday" programming. Rounding out the national schedule are Seton Hall road games with Syracuse (Feb. 10) and Villanova (Feb. 28) on ESPN and a contest with Miami (Feb. 1) to be shown on ESPN 2.
"We're very excited to have 11 nationally televised games, and we hope our level of play warrants this attention," said Pirate head coach Tommy Amaker.
ESPN Regional will produce the remainder of the Pirates' 12 regional/local telecasts. The outlets carrying Seton Hall games are Fox Sports New York, Madison Square Garden Network, WWOR, CN8- The Comcast Network and WLNY (55).
Seton Hall's flagship radio station, WABC (770 AM), will carry all but six of the Pirates' games this year. Those six games will be broadcast on Radio Disney, WQEW (1560 AM).
