Seton Hall Baseball Wins Homestead Challenge; Critelli Named MVP

HOMESTEAD, FL -- The Seton Hall baseball team captured the Homestead Challenge title with a 16-3 victory over St. Francis (NY) on March 18. The Pirates improve to 9-6 overall, finishing with a 6-1 record in the Homestead Challenge.
The Pirates pounded out 14 hits in the game, including three by freshman Casey Grimm (Morristown, NJ). The rookie left fielder went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore right fielder Jeff Miller (Springfield, NJ) went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.
The Pirates scored in every inning except the sixth, including six runs in the fifth.
Junior right-hander Shawn Tarkington (Peekskill, NJ) earned his second victory of the season, allowing only three hits in five innings.
Senior Alfie Critelli (Summit, NJ) was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, finishing the week with a .429 average, three home runs and 12 RBI.
The Pirates host Rider at 3 p.m. on March 21 at Owen T. Carroll
