Hall Drops Series Opener at Creighton

How it Happened
Creighton got on the board early, as a solo home run and an RBI double gave the Bluejays an early 2-0 advantage. After clean innings from Pirates' starter Steven Svenson in the second and third, a two-run shot in the fourth doubled Creighton's lead.
The Pirate bullpen did well to keep them within striking distance. Derek Benzinger came on in relief in the fourth, inheriting a runner but evading any further damage. Ryan Reich worked two scoreless innings and struck out five in what proved to be his best outing of the season. Despite the bullpen's effectiveness in keeping Creighton off the board, Seton Hall's bats were limited to just five hits.
The two best chances of the night for the Pirates came late. In the seventh, back-to-back hit batsmen gave Seton Hall a chance to break through, but the Bluejays bullpen was able to escape the threat. The same scenario presented itself in the eighth, when Seton Hall had two runners on with one out but were still unable to score.
