Tysons, Va. – Ryan Strnad hit his first career home run while Steven Svenson allowed zero earned runs over 6.2 innings as Seton Hall earned the victory, 3-2, in the middle game of its series at Georgetown on Friday night.

How it Happened
Both starting pitchers got off to strong starts on the bump, holding each offense scoreless through the first four innings while limiting traffic on the basepaths. Seton Hall would be the first team to break through, doing so in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI infield single from Shea Grady. Svenson took back to the mound in the bottom of the fifth, setting down the side in order as he faced the minimum in each of the first five innings of his outing.

After a quiet sixth, Strnad led off the top of the seventh with a solo shot to center for the first home run of his collegiate career. Later in the frame, Ryan Frontera would add to the Pirate lead with an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.

The bottom of the seventh was the first time Svenson ran into trouble, starting with a throwing error that put a runner in scoring position to open the inning. Back-to-back run scoring base hits with two outs in the inning brought the Hoyas back within one, 3-2, and chased Svenson from the game. John Higgins came on in relief with a runner one, inducing a groundout to escape any further damage.

Higgins would be the one to finish the game for Seton Hall and preserve the one-run lead for the final two innings. He was able to work around a one-out walk, getting a 4-6-3 double play to set down the side. Higgins then pitched a clean ninth inning to earn his ninth save of the year.
