SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Seton Hall has earned the fifth seed in the 2000 AT&T BIG EAST Championship and will faced 12th-seeded Providence in the first round on Wednesday, March 8, at 3:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. The Pirates, 19-8 overall and 10-6 in the league, finished tied for fourth place in the conference with Connecticut but the Huskies earned the fourth seed by sweeping the regular-season series.
Seton Hall's seed is its highest since the Pirates were the top seed in the 1993 BIG EAST Championship, and went on to win the title. The fourth-place finish is also Seton Hall's highest (in a one-division league) since that 1992-93 season, when the Pirates were the regular-season champions.
If Seton Hall wins on Wednesday, it will face the winner of #4 Connecticut-#13 Boston College in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 2 p.m.
The BIG EAST Semifinals are slated for 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday with the championship game on Saturday, March 11 at 8 p.m. All games of the championship will be televised live by either ESPN or ESPN2.
