Eddie Griffin Named Big East Co-Rookie of the Week

It is the fifth time this season that Griffin has earned the award, the most for a Pirate player since Darius Lane won it six times last year.
Griffin, a 6-9 forward, averaged 21.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game in two wins while shooting 63 percent (17-27) from the field. He had 21 points and 12 rebounds against Hartford and 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks vs. Central Connecticut State.
On the year, Griffin is averaging 20.5 points, 12.7 rebounds and 5.2 blocks per game. He has recorded double-doubles in 10 of 11 games and has scored in double figures in all 11.
Griffin and the Pirates open BIG EAST Conference play on Wednesday, January 3, when they host Providence at Continental Airlines Arena at 7:30 p.m.
