Eddie Griffin Named One of Naismith Award Finalists

The winners of the Naismith Awards, given to the top men's and women's players in the nation, will be honored in Atlanta on April 7 at the Cobb Galleria Centre.
Griffin is the only freshman among the elite group. The 6-9 forward is currently averaging 18.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game for the Pirates. Griffin is the nation's leader in blocked shots and ranks second in rebounding.
The finalists for the Naismith College Player of the Year are: Shane Battier, Duke; Charlie Bell, Michigan State; Troy Bell, Boston College; Michael Bradley, Villanova; Jarron Collins, Stanford; Joseph Forte, North Carolina; Casey Jacobsen, Stanford; Troy Murphy, Notre Dame; Terence Morris, Maryland; Jason Richardson, Michigan State; Jamaal Tinsley, Iowa State; Jason Williams, Duke; Michael Wright, Arizona.
The Naismith Awards program, now in its 33rd year, honors the outstanding college basketball players in the United States. The awards program was founded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, an organization dedicated to recognizing the achievements of excellence in basketball for student-athletes.
