Track & Field Teams Compete At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 28, 2001)- The Seton Hall men's and women's track and field teams competed at the prestigious Penn Relays April 26-28 at the University of Pennsylvania. The highlights for Seton Hall were the men's and women's teams competing in the finals of the 4x400m relay Championship of America on Saturday evening. The women finished fifth and the men seventh.
In the women's 4x400m relay, senior Shontee Bryant (Silver Spring, MD), junior Nolle Graham (Bronx, NY), freshman Henrietta George (Lithonia, GA) and senior Erica Broomfield (Markham, Ontario) ran in a time of 3:34.77 in the finals and 3:34.66 in the preliminaries, the relay team's best times of the outdoor season.
The men's squad of sophomore Kareem Taylor (Trinidad, West Indies), senior Ken Nelson (Port Huron, MI), freshman O.J. Hogans (Decatur, GA) and freshman Dwayne Thomas (Burtonsville, MD) ran in a time of 3:08.37 in the finals and 3:06.63 in the preliminary heat.
In the women's 3,000m steeplechase on Thursday night, sophomore Celeste Banks (Jersey City, NJ) finished fifth in a time of 11:00.27, her personal best this spring and an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
The men's sprint medley relay team took fifth in a time of 3:17.52, its best time of the season. Other top finishers for Seton Hall were junior Jana Burton (Jamaica, NY), who finished ninth in the shot put championship (13.46m), and the women's 4x800m relay team, which took second in the ECAC Division with a time of 8:48.80.
The Seton Hall track and field teams will compete at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 4-6 at Rutgers University.
