Swimming and Diving Splits Season Opener With Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Seton Hall swimming and diving team split its season opener with Villanova on Tuesday evening. The men won, 165-128, while the women fell to the Wildcats, 182-106.

The men’s team swam to 10 first place finishes, led by senior Steve Falcone (Norwalk, Conn.), senior Mike LaRosa (Easton, Pa.), and freshman Chris Prus (Southington, Conn.), all double-winners. Falcone earned two first place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, LaRosa swam to first in the 50 and 100 freestyles, and Prus placed first in the 400 individual medley and the 200 backstroke. The Pirates also had three individual winners: senior co-captain Matt Miklius (Palatine, Ill.) earned a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle, and junior Hidenaga Murakami (Los Angeles, Calif.) placed first in the 200 butterfly, and freshman Andrew Wilson (Easton, Pa.) placed first in the 500 freestyle. The men also placed first in the 400 medley relay.

The women were led by senior Ashley Johnston (Windsor, Conn.) who earned two first place finishes in the 100 butterfly and the 400 individual medley. Junior Jessica Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) also swam to victory for the Pirates, winning the 500 freestyle.

The Pirate swimming and diving squad will host UMBC on Sunday, Nov. 6, in Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
