Swimming and Diving Split Meet with LaSalle

PHILADELPHIA, PA.—The Seton Hall swimming and diving teams split a meet with LaSalle on Tuesday evening. The women’s team (4-3) won, 152.5-82.5, while the men’s team (3-4) fell 152-80. The women’s team gathered seven first place finishes while the men’s team had four.

The women’s team was led by senior Ashley Johnston who had two first place finishes. Johnston placed first in the 200 individual medley and the 200 butterfly, timing 2:13.15 and 2:09.43, respectively. Sophomore Erin Legg had an impressive meet, placing first in the 200 backstroke (2:11.25), and second in the 200 individual medley (2:14.63). Sophomore Michelle Ducharme swam to first place in the 1000 freestyle, timing 10:38.57, and placed second in the 500 freestyle, timing 5:17.04. Freshman Hannah Meyer placed first in the 200 breaststroke, swimming 2:30.22. The Pirates also placed first in the 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, timing 4:10.92, and 3:46.14, respectively.

The men’s team was led by senior Mike LaRosa who earned two first place finishes. LaRosa timed 22.11 in the 50 freestyle, and 48.27 in the 100 freestyle. Senior Evan Koenig added a first place finish in the 200 backstroke, 1:57.75. Freshman Angelo D’Errico, junior Hidenaga Murakami, and Matt Rienzo all added second place finishes. D’Errico timed 2:11.35 in the 200 breaststroke, Murakami timed 1:57.60 in the 200 butterfly, and Rienzo swam 10:02.35 in the 1000 freestyle. The men also placed first in the 400 medley relay, timing 3:37.35.

The Seton Hall swimming and diving teams will next compete on Saturday, Jan. 28 where they will host BIG EAST opponent Syracuse. Diving is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.
