PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seton Hall senior guard Donald Copeland (Jersey City, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week after averaging 20.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game in the Pirates’ two road victories over ranked opponents last week. Copeland was also 5-for-9 from behind the arc and 17-for-19 from the free-throw line in the two games.
In Seton Hall’s 83-65 win over No. 14/15 N.C. State on Wednesday, Copeland scored a game-high 22 points, pulled down six rebounds and made 15 of his 16 free-throw attempts. While leading the Pirates to a 68-61 victory over No. 24/25 Syracuse on Sunday, Copeland scored 18 points, also dishing out eight assists and sinking four 3-point baskets.
For the year, Copeland is Seton Hall’s top scorer with 15.9 ppg. He also averages 4.2 apg and is shooting 39.4 percent from 3-point range, making 39 of his 99 attempts.
Rutgers’ J.R. Inman was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, while the conference honor roll was comprised of Georgetown’s Jeff Green, Carl Krauser of Pittsburgh, Providence’s Donnie McGrath, Rutgers’ Quincy Douby and Randy Foye of Villanova.
Copeland was also named to the PrestoSports/MBWA Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season, voted on by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
Seton Hall returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1, when the Pirates travel to Providence, R.I., to take on Providence College at 7:30 p.m. in the Dunkin Donuts Center.
