Swimming and Diving Teams Sweep Iona

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.—The Seton Hall swimming and diving teams swept Iona on Tuesday evening at Author E. Imperatore Natatorium. The men (4-5)defeated Iona by a score of 138-59, and the women (5-4) won 149-83. The men and women swimming and diving teams combined for a total of 20 first place finishes.

Ashley Johnston was a triple winner for the Pirates, winning the 1000 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and was a member of the 200 medley relay. Michelle Ducharme won the 500 (5:16.38) and 200 freestyles (1:58.21), followed by Hannah Meyer and Christine Zuffante in second and third place, respectively in the 200 freestyle. Zuffante also claimed victory in the 100 butterfly, timing 1:01.45. Erin Legg swam to victory in the 200 individual medley, timing 2:17.62, while Trudy Wojciehowski won the 50 freestyle, timing 55.68. In diving action, Ashley Franz won both heats of diving.

Mike LaRosa and Matt Miklius led the men’s squad. Mike LaRosa was a triple winner, winning the 50 freestyle in 22.5, the 100 butterfly (54.86), and was a part of the 200 medley relay. Matt Miklius was a double winner in the 1000 and 500 freestyles, swimming a time of 10:04.48 and 4:56.20, respectively. Matt Rienzo added a victory in the 200 freestyle, timing 1:49.38. Matt Farber swam to first in the 100 freestyle, timing 50.25. In the 100 backstroke, Chris Prus claimed victory, timing 56.40. The men swept first through third place in the 200 individual medley, with Evan Koenig claiming victory in 2:01.27. In diving action, Angelo Stracquatanio scored 95.63.

The Pirates will next travel to Marist on Saturday, Feb. 4. The meet is set for 1:00 p.m.
