Men's Basketball Stifles St. Peter's, 80-60

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.- The Seton Hall men’s basketball team won, 80-60, against St. Peter’s on Monday evening.  Junior Brian Laing (Bronx, N.Y) led all scorers with 18 points and added nine rebounds.  The Pirates (3-1) had four players in double-figures, and their full-court pressure forced 22 Peacock turnovers on the night.

Junior Jamar Nutter (Bloomfield, N.J.) scored 15, and surpassed 500 points for his career.  Nutter is the 99^th player in Seton Hall history to reach the half-century milestone.  Freshman Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y) played a strong all-around game with 15 points, six assists, and six boards.  Sophomore Paul Gause (Pittsgrove, N.J.) contributed 12 points off the bench.

Seton Hall took a 9-2 lead to start the first half, but St. Peter’s (2-4) outscored the Pirates 14-3 in a 5:36 span, to take their largest lead of the game at 22-16.  The Pirates turned it around with an 11-0 run to make the score 27-22, as they went into the break leading, 35-30.

The Pirates came out strong in the second half, going on a 15-2 run to extend their lead to 50-32, with 14:23 remaining.  At the 8:38 mark, a Nutter three-pointer gave Seton Hall their largest lead of the night at 62-42.  The Peacocks tried to respond, going on a 9-0 run, to cut the deficit to 68-56, but an alley-oop from Harvey to Laing sealed the deal for the Pirates.

Todd Sowell registered a double-double, with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Raul Orta led St. Peter’s with 15 points.

The Pirates face St. Mary’s at the Continental Airlines Arena on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1:00 p.m.
