Men's Basketball Drops Bloomfield, 107-80, in Exhibition Action

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. Junior Brian Laing (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 18 of his team-high 24 points in the first half as Seton Hall cruised to a 107-80 victory over Bloomfield College in exhibition action at Walsh Gym.

Laing scored his 24 points on 10-11 shooting and picked up a team-high eight rebounds in only 28 minutes of play.  Junior Jamar Nutter (Bloomfield, N.J.) chipped in 19 points and recorded a team-high four steals.

The Pirates led by only six with 5:05 left in the first half, but then went on a 16-4 run over the next 3:07 to open a 19-point lead and pull away for good.  The run was highlighted by three-pointers from senior Carl Marshall (Chicago, Ill.), sophomore Paul Gause (Pittsgrove, N.J.) and freshman Larry Davis (Middle Village, N.Y.).

As a team, Seton Hall shot 58.8 percent from the floor for the game and held Bloomfield to under 40 percent (39.4).  The Pirates connected on 14 three-pointers, while shooting 53.8 percent from behind the arc, including three from senior Mani Messy (Gloucester, Ontario) who finished with 11 points.

Overall, Seton Hall used a balanced scoring attack as five players finished in double-figures in scoring and nine of the 10 that played scored at least six points. 

Bloomfield’s Andre Dabney led all scorers with 27 points.

Seton Hall will open the 2006-07 regular season on Saturday, November 11 vs. Caldwell College at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
