SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.Seton Hall’s head swimming and diving coach Ron Farina announced the signing of six athletes that will join the swimming and diving squads in the 2007-08 season. Farina inked two on the women’s side and six on the men's side, with Britney Hervey and Brittany Henning signing on the women's side, and Kevin Webster, John D’Errico, Nick Naumann and Mike Oldman signing with the men.
Hervey, from Bethpage, N.Y., will strengthen the women’s diving team. An All-State selection, she was the Nassau County Champion. Farina believes that Hervey has the potential to be a BIG EAST Finalist in 2008.
“The addition of Britney will allow Seton Hall to compete with the upper echelon level of divers in the BIG EAST Conference,” Farina said.
Henning, from Batavia, Ill., is a USA Swimming Sectionalist finalist. She was All-American in the breaststroke, and has posted personal bests of 1:05 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:27 in the 200 breaststroke. Henning will help to solidify the breaststroke and medley relay events.
Webster is a versatile signee for the Pirates. From Leawood, Kansas, Webster placed third in the 200 freestyle at the Kansas State Championships and is an All-American. Farina believes that he has the potential to be a BIG EAST finalist in numerous events, including the 100, 200, 500 freestyles.
D’Errico is no stranger to Seton Hall, as his older brother Angelo is a sophomore on the squad. D’Errico, from Syosset, N.Y. is a junior National Finalist, and an All-American. D’Errico will add a viable option in the butterfly and individual medley events.
Naumann, who is from Middletown, Conn., is a YMCA National Qualifier. Naumann will add a solid option in the sprint events, and Farina believes he will qualify for multiple BIG EAST cuts in the 100 butterfly and backstroke, as well as the 50 freestyle.
Oldham, who is from Stow, Ohio, is a sectional qualifier. He will add depth to the sprint freestyle events, and is expected to produce multiple BIG EAST cuts.
The Seton Hall swimming and diving teams will next compete at the Copa Coqui Invite when the team travels to Puerto Rico for its winter training trip.
