2006-07 Men's Basketball Schedule Announced

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall men’s basketball team’s 2006-07 schedule is highlighted by 16 home games at Continental Airlines Arena, 10 games against 2006 NCAA Tournament participants and an appearance in the BYU Holiday Classic.  The Pirates will again compete in the BIG EAST Conference as 16 teams will battle for 12 spots in the league championship, Mar. 7-10 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.   Ticket information for the upcoming season is available by calling the Seton Hall Athletic Ticket Office at (973) 275-HALL. 

“We have a good balance of exciting and challenging games on the schedule, both at home and on the road,” Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez said.  “Our fans should be excited about some of the opponents we face, with Penn State coming to play us at home and facing Virginia Tech at Madison Square Garden. We’re also bringing Princeton back onto the schedule and we’ll play several New Jersey opponents, which should be exciting for our fans. We also face a number of teams that will be picked towards the top of their leagues and as always the BIG EAST schedule is demanding both at home and on the road.”

The Pirates will open the year against three opponents from the state of New Jersey. After a Nov. 3 exhibition against Bloomfield College at Walsh Gym, the Pirates will host Caldwell College (Nov. 11) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Nov. 18) at Continental Airlines Arena. Seton Hall will play a Nov. 25 road game at Morgan State before returning home for five straight home games. SHU will host St. Peter’s (Nov. 27), St. Mary’s (Dec. 2), Monmouth (Dec. 4) and Penn State (Dec. 9) before hosting William Paterson in an exhibition at Walsh Gym on Dec. 15.

Seton Hall will face Virginia Tech on Dec. 21 at the Aeropostale Classic in Madison Garden and then return home to face defending-Ivy League champ Pennsylvania on Dec. 23. The Pirates will travel to Provo, Utah, for the BYU Holiday Classic from Dec. 28-30 against Oral Roberts, Liberty and Brigham Young before kicking off the BIG EAST schedule. On Jan. 29, the Pirates will renew its in-state series with Princeton for the school’s first meeting since 1988.

Seton Hall’s BIG EAST schedule features home-and-home series with Providence, Rutgers and West Virginia.  SHU will open the conference schedule at home against Rutgers on Jan. 3.  In addition to hosting RU, the Pirates will play home games against St. John’s (Jan. 11), Providence (Jan. 17), Georgetown (Jan. 19), Princeton (Jan. 29), West Virginia (Feb. 3), Villanova (Feb. 10), Pittsburgh (Feb. 19) and South Florida (Feb. 24).  Seton Hall will travel to Providence (Jan. 6), Notre Dame (Jan. 14), Marquette (Jan. 24), Rutgers (Jan. 27), Connecticut (Feb. 14), West Virginia (Feb. 17) Cincinnati (Feb. 28) and Louisville (Mar. 4).  SHU will not face Syracuse or DePaul in the regular season. 

Monmouth, Pennsylvania, Oral Roberts, Georgetown, Marquette, West Virginia, Villanova, Connecticut and Pittsburgh all participated in the NCAA Tournament last year. In addition, Fairleigh Dickinson, BYU, Penn State, Cincinnati, Louisville, Notre Dame and Rutgers all participated in the NIT last year. All game times, plus television and radio information, will be announced at a later date.
