SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.The Seton Hall swimming and diving teams swept LaSalle on Tuesday afternoon at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. The men defeated the Explorers 162-138 and the women won 164-134. The men’s team improved to 7-1 and the women to 5-2 with the victories. The teams recorded a total of 18 first place finishes in the two wins.
On the men’s side, senior Jack Leavitt (East Boston, Mass.) sophomore Angelo D'Errico (Syosset, N.Y.) and freshman Stan Sadovski (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each were individual double winners and were members of the two winning relays: the 200 medley and 200 freestyle. Leavitt won the 100 backstroke in 53.30 and the 200 backstroke in 1:56.36 while D’Errico cleaned up the breaststroke events with victories in the 100 (58.86) and the 200 (2:08.77). Sadovski won both of the sprint freestyle events: timing 21.78 in the 50 and 47.64 in the 100. Sophomore Matt Rienzo (Wallingford, Conn.) won the 1000 freestyle in 9:47.31 and Chris Prus (Southington, Conn.) turned in a victory in the 500 freestyle (4:44.80). In addition, senior Hidenaga Murakami won the 100 butterfly in 52.80
On the women’s side, sophomore Christine Zuffante (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman Kaitlyn Hafner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) each recorded two individual victories. Zuffante won the backstroke events, timing 1:01.89 in the 100 and 2:11.92 in the 200, while Hafner won the 200 butterfly (2:12.75) and the 200 individual medley (2:12.14). In addition, junior Michelle Ducharme (Vernon, Conn.) won the 1000 freestyle in 10:32.12 and freshman Jessica Hart won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.03. The Pirates also won the 200 freestyle relay, composed of Olivia Jackson (Wescosville, Pa.), Christina Miklius (Palatine, Ill.), Trudy Wojciehowski (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Zuffante. In diving action, Laura Dubendorfer (Corning, N.Y.) won the three-meter dive with 254.10 points.
The Seton Hall swimming and diving teams will travel to Syracuse on Saturday, Jan. 27. Diving is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. and swimming will start at Noon.
