EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. The Seton Hall men’s basketball team continues to alternate wins and losses after dropping its contest to Georgetown, 74-58, on Friday. The Hoyas out-rebounded the Pirates, 39-11, and scored 21 second chance points to improve their record to 13-5 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST. Seton Hall drops to 11-7 and 3-3 in conference play.
In the opening 2:10 of the contest Georgetown went up 10-0, forcing a Pirate timeout. Junior Brian Laing (Bronx, N.Y.) did his best to keep Seton Hall in the game, scoring 13 of his team-high 19 points in the first half. Unfortunately, the rest of the Pirates could not find their rhythm, and trailed at the break, 34-21.
The Hoyas maintained their lead in the second half, but Seton Hall did not quit. Freshman Larry Davis (Middle Village, N.Y.) completed a four-point play for the second straight game to cut the Georgetown lead to 58-45 with 6:23 on the clock. On the next Hoya possession, Davis was whistled for an intentional foul and the Pirates could not recover.
The Pirates forced 20 turnovers, led by BIG EAST steal leader, Paul Gause (Pittsgrove, N.J.) who had five for the game. Freshman Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y) had nine points and was held to single-digit scoring for the first time in 15 games.
Georgetown’s Jonathon Wallace scored a game-high 21 points, while DaJuan Summers recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pirates will try to bounce back on Wednesday, Jan. 24, when they take on Marquette in Milwaukee, Wisc. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
