EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. The Seton Hall men’s basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak after defeating Princeton, 79-41, on Monday. All nine players that dressed for the Pirates found their way into the scorer’s column, led by junior Brian Laing’s (Bronx, N.Y.) 17 points. Seton Hall improves to 12-9 on the season and 10-2 at Continental Airlines Arena.
The Pirates enjoyed having the size advantage against Princeton, outscoring the Tigers, 34-14, in the paint. Seton Hall also controlled the boards, holding a, 33-to-18 advantage. Freshman Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y) finished with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor. Noah Savage led the Tigers with 10 points.
A Laing steal and dunk jump-started a 13-3 run that put the Pirates ahead, 25-9, with 8:33 to go in the first half. Freshman Larry Davis (Middle Village, N.Y.) has shown his ability to score, but found his teammates early on, handing out five assists as the Pirates led at the break, 41-21.
Senior Stan Gaines (Chicago, Ill.) scored six of his 10 points during a 15-2 run that started that extended the advantage to 58-23 with 14:17 left. The Tigers could only manage one field goal in the final 11:26 as Seton Hall went on for the win.
The Pirates return to action on Saturday, Feb. 3, when they take on West Virginia at Continental Airlines Arena. Tip-off is set for noon.
