NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.The Seton Hall swimming and diving teams defeated Iona at Hynes Athletics Center Pool. The men won, 134-91, while the women were victorious, 130-101. The men’s team improved to 8-2 with the win while the women stand at 6-3. The teams recorded a total of 17 scored first place finishes.
On the men’s side, senior Jack Leavitt (East Boston, Mass.), freshman Stan Sadovski (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and sophomore Chris Prus (Southington, Conn.) were each double winners for the Pirates. Leavitt won the 200 backstroke (1:48.02) and the 100 freestyle (49.37), while Sadovski won the 100 butterfly (53.38) and the 50 freestyle (22.30). Prus added victories in the 200 individual medley (2:00.92) and the 500 freestyle (4:49.00). Matt Rienzo (Wallingford, Conn.) won the 1000 freestyle in 10:00.82, and Jason Benson (Overland Park, Kan.) added a win in the 100 backstroke (55.27). The men swept first, second and third place scored finishes in the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke and the 1000 freestyle.
On the women’s side, four swimmers recorded first place finishes. Senior Jessica Kolackovsky, (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led the Pirates with three first place finishes. She placed first in the 1000 freestyle (10:45.94), first in the 200 freestyle (2:00.31), and first in the 500 freestyle (5:16.75). Freshman Kaitlyn Hafner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) was a double winner with victories in the 200 individual medley (2:15.86) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.79). Freshman Olivia Jackson (Wescosville, Pa.) added a win in the 100 freestyle (56.08) and junior Haley Ottenbreit (North Branford, Conn.) won the 100 backstroke (1:02.44). Freshman Christina Miklius (Palatine, Ill.) swam to second place in the 50 freestyle (25.76). Seton Hall also won the 200 medley relay. The Pirates swept the first, second, and third scored finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
The Seton Hall swimming and diving teams will travel to Rutgers on Saturday, Feb. 10. The meet is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
