NEWARK, N.J. Senior Jamar Nutter (Bloomfield, N.J.) scored 23 points to lead the Seton Hall men’s basketball team to a, 94-80, win over Loyola. The Pirates, who had four players score in double-figures, improve to 3-0 on the young season.
Nutter shot 7-of-14 from the field, and hit 5-of-11 from downtown. Sophomore John Garcia (Brentwood, N.J.) had a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Sophomore Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 16 points and six assists.
Seton Hall jumped out to a 12-6 lead after Nutter drained a trey 5:33 into the game. The Greyhounds (3-2) scored six straight to tie the game at 12-12, and eventually took a, 20-17, lead after Gerald Brown knocked down a three-pointer with 11:30 in the half.
Trailing, 26-24, the Pirates’ full court pressure forced eight turnovers to spark a 20-4 run over a five-minute span to give Seton Hall a 14 point cushion, as they went into the half up, 51-36.
Loyola cut their deficit to 65-58, but the Pirates went on another 17-2 run, capped by Jeremy Hazell (Bronx, N.Y.) three-pointer to put the Greyhounds away for good.
Hazell set a career-high with 17 points off the bench, and sophomore Larry Davis (Middle Village, N.Y.) filled the stat-sheet with seven points, five rebounds, six assists, and career-best four steals.
Brown led the way for Loyola with 18 points and eight rebounds.
The Greyhounds out-shot Seton Hall 52.6 percent to 43.7 percent. The Pirates had just eight turnovers, and forced 19.
