EVANSTON, Ill. - Junior Noteisha Womack (Washington, D.C.) grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds and freshman Ebonie Williams (Hagerstown, Md.) poured in a personal-best 21 points to lead the Seton Hall women's basketball team past Northwestern, 66-51.
Womack recorded her third double-double of the season, scoring 10 points. Her 21 rebounds ties for the fifth highest single-game total in Seton Hall history; Ozelina Gorham holds the top spot with 25 against Scranton in 1979, while three players have turned in 22-rebound performances.
Senior Ela Mukosiej (Bialystok, Poland) chipped in 13 points, all in the second half, for the Pirates (6-2). Sara Stutz led the Wildcats (3-7) with 12 points.
SHU came out with a strong defensive effort, holding Northwestern scoreless for the opening six minutes and 35 seconds. A lay-up by junior Jadis Rhodin (Lakehurst, N.J.) gave the Hall its biggest lead of the first half at 11-6 with 10:24 remaining. The Wildcats fought back to twice take the lead in the opening half, but a Williams jumper and two Rhodin free throws sent SHU into the break with a 24-20 lead.
After a Stutz bucket to start the second stanza, Williams scored three quick buckets to spark a 12-1 Pirate run that made it 36-23. SHU kept the lead in double-digits until Erin Dickerson hit a 3-pointer to cut the Wildcats' deficit to 57-49 with 2:24 to play. An 11-for-12 performance at the charity stripe down the stretch was enough to give the Hall a comfortable win, its second straight on the road.
Rhodin set a new career-high with seven steals for the Pirates, who had 15 as a team. SHU hit 38.9% of its shots and enjoyed a huge edge on the glass, 51-33. Seton Hall is now 6-2 for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
The Pirates return to action on Dec. 21 when they host Saint Joseph's at 12:30 p.m.
