Laing Earns BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall junior Brian Laing (Bronx, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.  It marks the third time this season he has received the honor. 

Laing averaged 19.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in a week that saw the Pirates go 1-1, defeating Princeton, 79-41, and falling to West Virginia, 81-70.  Against Princeton, Laing tallied a game-high 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.  On Saturday versus West Virginia, he picked up his fifth double-double of the season with 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The 6-foot-5 tri-captain leads the team this season with 16.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.  Enjoying a break-out campaign, Laing is a leading candidate for the BIG EAST Conference’s Most Improved Player Award.  Currently, he is tied for fifth in the BIG EAST Conference in scoring after only averaging 5.8 points per game last season.

Also earning weekly honors, South Florida’s McHugh Mattis was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while West Virginia’s Da’Sean Butler was named Rookie of the Week.  Those joining Laing on the Weekly Honor Roll include: Draelon Burns of DePaul, Jeff Green of Georgetown, Jerel McNeal of Marquette and Colin Falls of Notre Dame.

Laing and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Saturday, February 10 when they host Villanova at Continental Airlines Arena.  Game time is scheduled for noon.
