PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall senior Brian Laing (Bronx, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. It marks the fifth time he has received the honor in his career.
Laing averaged 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a week that saw the Pirates go 2-0 and stretch their win steak to four games. On Thursday, Jan. 24, Seton Hall earned their first BIG EAST road victory of the Bobby Gonzalez era with an 88-75 triumph at Providence. Laing led the Pirates with 22 points and a career-high 13 rebounds as he helped the team rebound from a 15-point first half deficit. Against Cincinnati on Sunday, Jan. 27, Laing scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 64-61 win over the Bearcats. He played all 40 minutes in both games.
Also earning weekly honors, Notre Dame’s Kyle McAlarney was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Rutgers’ Mike Coburn was named Rookie of the Week. Those joining Laing on the Weekly Honor Roll include: Hasheem Thabeet of Connecticut, Roy Hibbert of Georgetown, Luke Harangody of Notre Dame and Anthony Mason, Jr. of St. John’s.
Laing and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, January 30 when they take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, N.J. Game time is scheduled for 9:00 p.m.
