SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. Seton Hall men’s basketball head coach Bobby Gonzalez announced today that Jamel Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University and play basketball for the Pirates beginning in the 2008-09 season.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound shooting guard becomes the third member of Gonzalez’s recruiting class. He will join point guard Jordan Theodore (Englewood, N.J.) and center Melvyn Oliver (Long Beach, Calif.) as new Pirates this fall.
“Jamel is a tremendous shooter with a quick release and he’ll give us another deep range threat," Gonzalez said. "I think he’s as good of a long-distance shooter as Jeremy Hazell, but he also plays good defense and has impressive size for a two-guard. Jamel is the epitome of the kind of guard that I love and has made my system successful over the years.”
Jackson just completed his freshman year at Technical Career Institute (TCI) in Manhattan, N.Y. and will have three years of playing eligibility remaining once he joins Seton Hall. A Junior College Division I Third Team All-American, Jackson brings a reputation as an excellent shooter to South Orange. In his lone season at TCI, he scored 24.5 points per game, while shooting 47 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three-point range. Jackson’s performance earned him NJCAA Region XV Player of the Year honors.
