
Men's Swimming And Diving Takes Down Iona, 139-81

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The men's swimming and diving team improved their 2009-10 overall record to 4-2 by defeating Iona, 139-81, Tuesday evening at the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium in South Orange.
Seniors Stan Sadovski (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and P.J. Hughes (Livonia, N.Y.), along with junior Kevin Webster (Leawood, Kan.) and freshman Ian Keyser (Petersburg, N.J.) recorded two first place finishes each to lead the Pirates. Sadovski earned his top times in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Webster scored his first place finishes in the 400-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke - where he ranked 16th in the country entering Tuesday's competition. Keyser began the race with a first place time in the 1,000-yard freestyle and later added another in the 500-yard freestyle, while Hughes led the diving events with first place scores in the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Senior co-captain Jason Benson (Overland Park, Kan.) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Michael Oldham (Silver Lake, Oh.) recorded a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke to give the Pirates a one, two, three finish in the race. The Pirates would later finish the same in the 400-yard individual medley when freshmen Ryan O'Shaughnessy (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Austin Acheson (Olathe, Kan.) finished two and three, respectively behind Webster. O'Shaughnessy added a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly as well.
Sophomore Pete Gingeleskie (Bloomfield, N.J.) finished behind Keyser in second place in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle and junior John D'Errico (Syosset, N.Y.) recorded a top time in the 100-yard freestyle with sophomore Matt Holland (Horsham, Pa.) finishing second. Junior Kenny Pritchard (Castro Valley, Calif.) rounded out the day for the men with a third place time in the 50-yard freestyle.
In addition to Hughes, sophomore Will Penny (Suffern, N.Y.) recorded second place scores in the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
The men's swimming and diving team will return to action when they travel to Fairfax, Va. to compete in the three-day Patriot Invitational on Friday, November 20.
