Trailing, 10-7, in the bottom of the sixth inning, sophomore A.J. Rusbarsky (Freehold, N.J.) hit a bases loaded two-run single and freshman Ryan Parker (Midlothian, Va.) followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to tie game.
Seton Hall (15-15) would pick up an RBI double by junior Michael Rogers (Portland, Ore.) and a pinch-hit RBI single by freshman Charlie Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) in the home half of the eighth, yet it would not be enough as Tigers closer Matt Grabowski shut the door picking up the final four outs to earn his second save of the season.
With run-scoring doubles by DeGeorge, Brian Berkowitz and Adrian Turnham sandwiched around Van Horn and Derek Beckman sacrifice-fly balls the Tigers grabbed an early, 8-0 lead by the third inning. After Rusbarsky hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third the Pirates began to claw their way back.
Trailing, 8-1, in the bottom of the fifth, they sent 10 batters to the plate scoring six runs on four hits to cut the lead to, 8-7. Freshmen Michael Betz (Mine-Hill, N.J.), Bobby Migliazza (Stamford, Conn.), and Parker hit RBI singles, while classmate Dave Phelan (Wharton, N.J.) scored on an error by right fielder Tom Boggiano, to bring the Hall within one.
Murphy followed in the top of the sixth with a two-run triple to give the Tigers the, 10-7, edge.
Betz finished the day with two hits, three runs scored, and one RBI, Rusbarsky had two hits a run scored and two RBI, and Parker had two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI to lead the Pirates offense.
