SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall men's basketball head coach Kevin Willard announced today that Aaron Cosby (Louisville, Ky.), Haralds Karlis (Riga, Latvia), and Freddie Wilson (New Haven, Conn.) have signed national letters of intent to attend the University and play basketball for the Pirates starting the 2011-12 season.
"I'm really excited about all three," Willard said. "Each of them brings something different to our team, but they are all great students-athletes and they can really shoot the basketball."
Cosby is a 6-foot-2 combo guard originally from Louisville, Ky. and currently playing basketball at Northfield-Mt. Herman School in Massachusetts. As a junior, he averaged more than 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game.
"Aaron is a great combination of a point and two-guard," Willard said. "He has the ability to shoot the basketball and the also make plays for his teammates. With the number of guards that we have graduating, I think Aaron is going to bring great depth and balance to our lineup."
Karlis will become the third member of the 2011-12 team from the Canarias Basketball Academy (CBA) joining current freshmen Patrik Auda and Aaron Geramipoor. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard is widely regarded as being an excellent perimeter shooter with a strong work ethic. Karlis is CBA's team captain.
"Haralds is the type of player that can play the 1, 2 or 3," Willard said. "He has great ball skills and shoots the lights out. Haralds is going to come and give us stability at the wing spot, but we can also put him at the point if we want to go to a big lineup. He gives us a number of options."
A truer point guard than Cosby, Wilson is regarded as an offensive talent and creative playmaker. A 6-foot-2 native of New Haven, Conn., he averaged 21 points, five rebounds and eight assists last year at James E. Hillhouse High School.
"Freddie is another guy who can really shoot the ball, but even more impressive is his on-ball defense," Willard said. "He's a really hard worker and possesses a good point guard presence."
Seton Hall has will return to action on Friday, November 19 as they play Alabama in the first round of the 2010 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. The Pirates will then face either Iowa or Xavier on either Saturday or Sunday. Finally, they'll play a third game on Monday with the opponent to be determined. Seton Hall will return to the Prudential Center on Monday, Nov. 29 when they play host to Saint Peter's. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 973-275-HALL.
