
Boston College Defeats Women's Basketball at Junkanoo Jam

FREEPORT, Bahamas - The Seton Hall women's basketball team suffered an 85-46 defeat against Boston College in the first round of the Junkanoo Jam at St. Georges High School in the Bahamas. The Pirates (3-3) will face Auburn, who lost to Sacred Heart earlier in the day, on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
Junior Jasmine Crew (Camden, N.J.) and freshman Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.) led Seton Hall with nine points each. Kerri Shields paced the Eagles (5-0) with 19 points.
Boston College opened the game with seven points in the first 55 seconds, and it was 9-0 when the Hall called timeout at the 17:39 mark. Kristen Doherty hit consecutive three-pointers to make it 15-1 before Simmons scored the Pirates' first field goal on a layup with 15:41 to play.
The Eagles put together a 17-2 run to take a 38-9 lead with 6:59 left in the first half. Seton Hall responded with a spurt of its own, running off nine straight, capped off by a three from Simmons and a short jumper from Crew at the 4:50 mark.
Boston College took a 46-24 lead into halftime and led comfortably throughout the second half.
The Eagles hit 11 three-pointers on the day to the Hall's two. Boston College shot 55.2 percent overall while limiting the Pirates to 25.0 percent.
