
Women's Basketball Downed By Auburn at Junkanoo Jam

FREEPORT, Bahamas - The Seton Hall women's basketball team was downed by Auburn in the consolation round of the Junkanoo Jam on Saturday, 85-51. The Pirates (3-4) return to action in the United States on Wednesday at Delaware State.
Sophomore Alexandra Maseko (Harare, Zimbabwe) scored a career-high eight points to pace the Hall along with freshman Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.). Alli Smalley led the Tigers (2-4) with 15 points.
Auburn raced out to an early lead, going ahead 19-8 after a three-pointer by Smalley at the 12:44 mark. Junior Whitney Wood (Santa Margarita, Calif.) responded for the Hall, sinking her second three of the game, and the Pirates later closed to within 21-13 after a transition bucket by Simmons with 11:45 to go.
Maseko snapped a scoreless streak of nearly five and a half minutes with a layup for Seton Hall that made it a 26-15 game, and freshman Jazzmine Johnson (Glen Dale, Md.) later hit a three from the corner that left the Tigers' lead at 32-20 with 3:50 on the clock.
Auburn took a 42-28 lead into halftime behind 54.5 percent shooting, with 10 Tigers finding the scoring column in the opening 20 minutes. The Pirates were 5-of-7 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Tigers opened the second half with an 11-0 run, with five points from Blanche Alverson and four from Morgan Jennings, to take a 53-28 advantage. Seton Hall was unable to mount a rally throughout the remainder of the contest.
