SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Hofstra used a hot-shooting first half to knock off the Seton Hall women's basketball team, 76-65, on Saturday at Walsh Gymnasium. The Pirates (5-7) will host LaSalle on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

Junior Jasmine Crew (Camden, N.J.) had 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds, while freshman Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.) added 10 points, career-bests of seven rebounds and five assists, and four steals. Freshman Elaine Swaby (Paterson, N.J.) posted career-highs of nine points and eight rebounds.
Shante Evans led the Pride (6-1) with 23 points and eight boards, while Nicole Capurso scored 19.
A putback by Green gave the Hall a 6-2 lead at the 17:10 mark, but Hofstra went in front a minute later on a three-pointer by Nicole Capurso that made it 7-6. The Pride stretched its lead to 19-12 after Candice Bellocchio and Anma Onyeuku knocked down four straight free throws with 11:47 left, but sophomore Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) had the Hall back to within four after sinking a three with 10 minutes left.
Sophomore Terry Green (Brentwood, N.Y.) hit a jumper that made it 23-21 before Bellocchio answered on the other end with a three-point play. Crew later tied it at 26 with a triple, but Hofstra reclaimed a 34-28 lead after consecutive three-pointers from Capurso as the clock moved under six minutes.
After the Pirates got back to within two on a layup from Simmons, Capurso hit again from deep to make it 37-32. Kate Loper's three-pointer gave Hofstra 40-34 edge, and it was a seven-point game following a bucket from Evans with 1:56 to go. Capurso knocked down her fifth three-pointer of the half for a 47-37 lead, and the Pride took a 47-39 advantage into intermission.
Capurso led all players with 17 points at the half, while Kandice Green paced the Pirates with 12.
Hofstra's lead stretched to 12 before Simmons later brought the Hall back to within 51-43 on a pair of free throws at the 16:03 mark. Crew hit from downtown a minute later to cut it to five, but the Pride rallied back for a 58-47 lead after a three-pont play by Evans. It was a 15-point game after Isoken Uzamere got loose underneath for a layup that forced a Seton Hall timeout with 9:38 remaining.
The Pirates kept battling, and it was 70-62 after three baskets by Kandice Green in a 14-second span with just over four minutes to go. They would get no closer, however, and Hofstra escaped with an 11-point victory.
Both teams hit 27 field goals, but the Pride hit three more three-pointers and eight more free throws. Seton Hall dominated the glass to the tune of a 51-37 advantage.
