
Men's Swimming & Diving Defeat Villanova, 178-117

VILLANOVA, PA. - The Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team picked up where they left off prior to the month-long break when they defeated BIG EAST rival Villanova, 178-117, Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania. The win improves the men's record to 8-1 overall.
The team started the afternoon with first and second place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle by Pete Gingeleskie (Bloomfield, N.J.) and Ian Keyser (Petersburg, N.J.), respectively.
Kevin Webster (Leawood, Kan.) would add to the teams total with three first place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, and 400-yard individual medley. Gingeleskie finished behind Webster in second place in the 500-yard freestyle, while Ryan O'Shaughnessy (Coral Springs, Fla.) recorded a second place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with Austin Acheson (Olathe, Kan.) in third.
Prior to his second place time in the 400-yard IM, the sophomore from Florida recorded a first place time in the 200-yard breaststroke and a second place time in the 100-yard breaststroke. Behind him in the 200-yard breaststroke was Ian Delisio (Woodstock, N.Y.) in third place, and ahead of O'Shaughnessy in the 100-yard breaststroke was Kenny Pritchard (Castro Valley, Calif.) with his first place finish. Pritchard added a second place score in the 100-yard freestyle later in the day.
The Pirates would pick up important points in the butterfly events to continue their day. Beginning with the 200-yard butterfly, Spencer Murakami (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded the first of his two first place scores followed by John D'Errico (Syosset, N.Y.) in second and Greg Black (Easton, Pa.) in third. Murakami again finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with D'Errico ending in third and Black in fourth.
Joey Lacus (Wethersfield, Conn.) led the way in the 50-yard freestyle with a top finish, while Matt Holland (Horsham, Pa.) finished second. Holland also added a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with Brian Pauling (Sewell, N.J.) right behind in him fourth.
Matt Benson (Overland Park, Kan.) led the Pirates in the backstroke events with a first place time in the 200-yard backstroke, two spots ahead of Acheson who finished third, and a second place time in the 100-yard backstroke.
The men's swimming & diving team will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Storrs, Conn. for a meet against another conference rival Connecticut. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
