BIG EAST SWIMMING AND DIVING WEEKLY RELEASE - Nov. 1, 2011
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall men's swimmer Richard Dunham (Wayzata, Minn.) was named BIG EAST Conference Male Swimmer of the Week for the week-ending October 30. The announcement was made by the conference on Tuesday, November 1.
Dunham, a sophomore, is in his first year swimming for the Pirates. Over the weekend SHU defeated both Lafayette and Loyola (MD) at a tri-meet in Baltimore, Md. to push their record to 3-0 on the season. As a part of the effort, Dunham posted two individual victories and was part of a 200-yard medley relay team that finished first as well.
Dunham clocked a first-place time of 20.79 in the 50-yard freestyle for the first of his two individual victories on the day. In the 100-yard freestyle, Dunham came to the wall in 47.22 seconds, eclipsing the field by more than a second.
Dunham also swam the final leg of the 200-yard medley relay in 21.14 seconds to secure the victory for his team.
In just two meets this season, the sophomore has recorded four individual victories, posted two second-place finishes and been a part of the victorious 200-yard medley relay team in both competitions. He is the first Pirate to win the award since departed senior Kevin Webster was honored for the third time in his career on November 3, 2010.
Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams are in action on Tuesday, November 1 as they host the Iona College Gaels. Start-time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium located inside the Richie Regan Athletic Center.
