SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team fell to Wake Forest, 60-44, on Sunday afternoon. Senior Jasmine Crew (Camden, N.J.) and junior Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) each scored 11 points in the loss.
The Pirates held the Demon Deacons 20 points below their season scoring average, but struggled offensively, shooting just 21.5 percent from the floor.
Senior Tajay Ashmeade (Bronx, N.Y.) posted her third double-digit rebounding game of the season after grabbing a game-high 12 boards.
After falling behind 2-0, SHU went on a 7-2 run to hold a three-point lead with 15:54 left in the first half. A pull-up jumper by Terry Green (Bridgewaters, N.Y.) extended the margin to 17-12 at the 7:24 mark, but the Demon Deacons (6-1) rattled off nine straight points over the next four minutes to jump ahead once again.
Wake Forest took its largest lead of the half an old-fashioned three-point play by Secily Ray with 1:39 left before the intermission, and took a 28-23 advantage into the break.
The Pirates evened the score at 32-32 after a pair of free-throws by Morris with 13:45 left in regulation. However, just under a minute later Chelsea Douglas converted on 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to give the Demon Deacons the lead for good.
SHU remained within striking distance for the next five minutes, but could not bury a shot to take the momentum back. Lakevia Boykin drilled a three from the top of the key at the 8:18 mark, and Wake Forest never looked back.
The Pirates dominated on the glass, holding a 51-38 edge for the game. After shooting 42.9 percent in the first half, the Demon Deacons converted on just 31.8 percent clip in the second.
The Pirates open up BIG EAST play on Friday, December 9, against Connecticut in Walsh Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. For tickets, please contact the Seton Hall Ticket Office at (973) 275-HALL or via email at tickets@shu.edu.
