SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard announced today that Sean Grennan (Sea Girt, N.J.), Kevin Johnson (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and Brandon Mobley (Savannah, Ga.) will attend the University and play basketball for the Pirates starting the 2011-12 season.
"I'm very pleased with the addition of these three talented players," Willard said. "Brandon and Kevin will really help us inside and Sean solidifies our guard position. We targeted guys who could come in and help us right away. I'm really excited with the potential that all six of our newcomers will bring to this roster next year."
Regarded as an excellent passer and accurate shooter, Grennan was named to New Jersey's All-Ocean County team three straight years. A 6-foot-2 guard, he averaged 19 points, five assists and four rebounds per game as a senior at Monsignor Donovan High School. A strong three-point shooter, Grennan tallied over 1,400 career points in his career as a four-year starter.
A true center with a huge frame, Kevin Johnson was one of the most highly sought-after post players in the country this year. The 6-foot-9, 240-pound Woodland Hills, California native averaged a double-double as a senior while guiding William Howard Taft High School to a 29-3 record. A physically imposing player, Johnson is regarded as a player who knows how to establish position in the post with good hands and touch around the rim.
A 6-foot-9 forward, Brandon Mobley is described as an inside-outside big man with deep range, good athleticism and quickness. He averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks per game in his lone year at St. John's Northwestern Military Academy in Wisconsin. As a high school senior in Savannah, Mobley was named First Team All-State, All-Region and Region Most Valuable Player while leading Grove High School to a 28-2 record. A proficient scorer who can play both forward positions, he averaged a double-double at Grove.
The three newcomers will join fellow incoming freshmen Aaron Cosby (Louisville, Ky.), Haralds Karlis (Riga, Latvia) and Freddie Wilson (New Haven, Conn.) as members of Willard's second recruiting class. All will suit up for Seton Hall this fall.
