BRONX, N.Y. - The Seton Hall volleyball team won its fourth straight match after topping Fordham, 3-1 (25-18, 25-13, 21-25, 25-18) on Wednesday night to wrap up non-conference play. The Pirates are now 11-6 overall and will face USF on the road on Sunday, October 2, at 2:00 p.m.
Reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) led the way with 12 kills and a career-high 27 digs. Freshman Ashani Rubin (Philadelphia, Pa.) came up with a career-best eight blocks. Freshman Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) dished out 36 assists and added five blocks.
After a back-and-forth start, Simona Sekulova (Aukland, New Zealand) gave SHU the lead for good with a kill to make the score, 7-6. The Pirates then scored six of the next seven points to extend the margin to 13-8 and cruised to a 25-18 set-win.
A 6-1 spurt in the second set gave the Hall all the separation they would need as they routed the Rams, 25-13, to take a commanding lead in the match.
Set three was much more competitive with Fordham holding a small cushion for much of the way. The Rams used a 5-1 run to take a 19-14 advantage and held off a late Pirate surge to extend the contest with a 25-21 win.
Sekulova and Rubin teamed up for a block to give Seton Hall a 12-4 lead early in the fourth and never let Fordham come close as they slammed the door, 25-18.
