Schellscheidt will receive his honor on Friday, Jan. 18, at the 2013 NSCAA Awards Banquet, in Indianapolis, Ind., at 7 p.m.
The NSCAA annually honors three individuals who have elevated the game of soccer at the college, high school and youth level, through his or her long-term dedication to the game.
The Bill Jeffrey Award has been handed out annually since 1972, and is named after the former Penn State coach who played a critical role in the formation of the NSCAA, serving as president in 1948. Jeffrey was also the head coach of the 1950 United State World Cup, engineering one of the greatest upsets in soccer history when the U.S. defeated England, 1-0.
One of the most respected and revered coaches and tacticians in collegiate soccer, Schellscheidt spent 24 seasons as the head men's soccer coach at Seton Hall before announcing his retirement at the end of the 2011 season.
Over the nearly quarter century Schellscheidt spent at Seton Hall he led the Pirates to a 232-177-42 overall record and a 104-85-16 mark in BIG EAST play. His teams captured two BIG EAST Championships (1988, 1991), qualified for nine NCAA Tournament berths and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2001.
Schellscheidt coached five All-Americans at Seton Hall, including three first-team selections in Pat O'Kelly, Hector Zamora and Sacha Kljestan. He twice was named New Jersey Coach of the Year (1995, 1998) and was tabbed as the BIG EAST Coach of the Year in 2005.
His career honors also include induction into the United States Soccer Hall of Fame in 1990, the New Jersey Youth Soccer Association Hall of Fame in 1991, and the New Jersey Soccer Association Hall of Fame and Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League Hall of Fame in 2003.
Schellscheidt is just the second coach from a BIG EAST institution to receive the Bill Jeffrey Long-Term Service Award; the University of Connecticut's Joseph Morrone was honored in 1991.
