Lejbowicz Bags Brace as Pirates Down Campbell
8/23/2026 2:42:00 PM | Men's Soccer
In the opening half, the Pirates leapt out to a 2-0 lead off a pair of Mikkel Lejbowicz goals inside the first 21 minutes of the match. While Campbell found an equalizer before the halftime break, it would be The Hall's Sammy Sansone who broke the scoreless run with his first career goal to extend the lead to 3-1. The Camels responded nearly immediately with a goal of their own, but Seton Hall fended off their opposition's late surge to secure the 3-2 victory.
With the win, the Pirates move to 1-1-0 to open the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mirroring the season opener, the Pirates' offense pounced early in the final clash of their season-opening road trip. After an opportunity in the opening minute fell short, the Pirates launched a blistering third-minute counter attack. After Joaquin Brizuela's shot was saved, the ball clattered to Nico Rubio's feet. The fifth-year midfielder steadied himself and sent the ball towards Mikkel Lejbowicz on one touch. With his signature swiftness, Lejbowicz sent the ball past the keeper for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 Pirates lead.

Later, after earning a free kick in the 21st minute, Til Kauschke stepped over the ball looking to extend the lead. While his initial kick did not find the foot of a Pirate, the Camels' attempted clearance ricocheted off Lejbowicz and into the back of the net, securing the junior his second goal of the game and a 2-0 lead for The Hall.

Despite the immense offensive pressure, the two-goal lead was not sustained over the remainder of the half. A 28th-minute goal by Campbell off a Pirates miscue drew the Camels within one, 2-1, with under 20 minutes remaining in the half. As both sides went to their benches in search of fresh legs, the game appeared was either team's to claim. Yet, neither side managed to gain a sustained advantage for the remainder of the half, sending the match to the break with the Pirates holding a 2-1 lead.Out of halftime, neither side found a strong foothold as the ball swung wildly across the field under the hot North Carolina sun. Despite that, both teams shared explosive chances, including a disallowed Seton Hall goal and a near miss by the Camels.
However, the Pirates found their response to the Camels in the 78th minute. After nearly 50 minutes without a goal by either team, a streaking Rubio crossed the ball into the box. After battling for position in the box against the lone defender, Sammy Sansone tapped the ball past his defender and off the goalie's mitts to extend The Hall's lead back two, 3-1. While the Camels notched an equalizer nearly immediately, the Pirates' defense locked down Campbell over the final 12 minutes, allowing only a single shot to secure the 3-2 win.
